Securing a new tenant below Thyne House on Bathurst St

Securing a new tenant below Thyne House on Bathurst St

Over the past several months I’ve had the privilege of working with Anglicare & Homes Tasmania in sourcing a tenant for a vacant café tenancy on the ground floor of Thyne House on Bathurst St.

Thyne house is one of three locations across the state being operated under Anglicare’s Youth2 Independence program providing affordable accommodation for young people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

The brief here was a little different here in comparison to typical commercial vacancies we work on with the driving factor being to secure an operator that had the desire and willingness to operate their business is a manner that was aligned to the social objectives of Thyne House and Anglicare’s Youth2Independence program.

Having worked in commercial banking and now real estate for close to 20 years, I must say it was a refreshing change to work on a project driven primarily by social outcomes rather than financial concerns.

With this in mind, our campaign involved directly marketing the space to existing businesses throughout the state that not only had proven themselves as quality operators but had been involved with community initiatives in the past.

For anyone familiar with Paul, Tracey and Charlie and their team at Green Bean Café it will come as no surprise that this business was a standout prospect identified in our search who have been successful in securing this fantastic, newly fitout tenancy.

The Green Bean has been providing for Launceston's housing-stressed and homeless for a number of years, providing thousands of hot meals, coffees and support to those in need. In speaking with Paul, Tracey and Charlie over the past few months it became quickly apparent that this is a family with a genuine love for helping those in need and an ideal tenant for this space.

With the Green Bean staying at its current home on Cimitiere St this space will be opening under the new name of Lil’ Bean on Bathurst. Keep your eyes peeled and be sure to drop in once doors open to support this fantastic local business.
